The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living

Iam going through one of those phases in life where you can’t help but laugh at your own misery.I am in a branch which never amused me, I have got horrible grades in my first year at NITW and to make things worse I got through IIT JEE again with a hopeless rank of 4000.

I had never taken my acads seriously so I was still as happy as I ever was, but a week ago my dad finally decided to enlighten me about the fact that there's more to life than music,food and television.He asked me what my future plans were.I was in no mood to answer the question as I knew that Iam as bad at planning as anna kournikova is at playing tennis and more importantly I was busy watching my favourite cartoon.So i said Iam thinking of constructing another Millau Viaduct, hoping that it would take some time for my dad to recover from the shocking answer.Unfortunately he had this "Iam smarter than you" grin on his face and thats when I realised that this was going to take longer than expected.

The next few days I kept making futile attempts to find something good about civil engineering and trust me its as tough as finding something bad about Alicia Silverstone's face.Thats when I realized how big a mess I have got myself into.I found that there were not many good jobs in my branch and I really have to slog it out to get a good salary, now that was exactly what I never wanted.

I have learnt some stuff in the process and I would like to share it with you people.
1) Never choose a branch if you dont have an interest in it.
2) Never choose a branch just because the college is good.
3) If you are lookin for fatter pay packets and cozy jobs, choose the circuit branches only.
4) The campus placements in most colleges are the same even though it doesnt appear so unless you take a look around.
5) Dont be under the illusion that you will slide into a better branch after first year.It rarely happens.
6)Certain branches like civil,mettalurgy,mining etc have very few decent jobs and the hourly pay rate is very low too.
7) Never choose a college just because it’s near your house.

I have committed all the above mistakes, but still there are so many options left and I have decided to go for an MS (atleast that would land me in US of A).Now that would seem very silly considering that I havent entered second year yet, but what the heck, I had to choose something.

This is a really bizzare way to end this post, but I cant help it.Stick around for a couple of more years and I promise you a better ending....................
